Scary Zara, well she looks scary anyways. We have learned though that a tarantula is actually very docile and gentle. If you don't scare them, they are very gentle. Those of us who were feeling BRAVE decided to let Zara crawl up our sleeves. It was a little unsettling at first but then we realized that she was harmless. They will bite if they feel threatened, it will feel like a bee sting. One afternoon while we were observing here we saw her zoom some silk out of her spinnerets. A tarantula doesn't actually live in a spider web like most spiders but she's still wraps here prey in silk like a burrito. She's had grasshoppers for prey while under our care. We have Zara curtiously through the Live Science center. The children have really enjoyed our visiting critters.
